Executive & Team Coaching

One-on-One Executive Leadership Coaching

…………………………

Audience

C-Level executives, VPs, directors, managers

…………………………

Objective

To sharpen leadership skills and gain new tools to apply to team and organization

Executive leadership coaching is a highly personalized approach for individuals who seek a confidential partnership for developing leadership skills. This type of engagement is a combination of personal learning, support, and advice. We match you with a coach based on your needs, experience, style, and pace. You start with a 360-degree feedback assessment along with a self-reflection activity to help you identify your strengths and blind spots. Utilizing this data, the coach will collaborate with you to create your leadership developmental goals to elevate your performance to the next level.

Coaching sessions are 60 minutes long and they occur virtually every two weeks. With the exception of the first session, it is up to you to decide what issue(s) to address in each session. Your coach may bring in relevant tools, strategies, and frameworks at times to offer another perspective or reframe to help you make sense of your situation. Follow-up emails may include supplemental reading materials (e.g., books, articles, videos) for your reference.

Successful coaching engagement includes, but not limited to, the following outcomes:

  • Gain clarity - Understand what gets in your way of achieving the outcomes you desire.

  • Enhance awareness - Knowing your strengths and weaknesses so you can see yourself more clearly. Most importantly, you’ll learn to tap into your inner wisdom and leverage your existing strengths effectively.

  • Learn new ways to respond - One of Marshall Goldsmith’s book titles say it best, “What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.” The idea being that the skill set you developed in your career has served you well in your current role, but that might not get you to where you want go. A coach can help you to expand your leadership “toolkit” with new skills and choices.

Team Coaching

…………………………

Audience

An intact team + manager

…………………………

Objective

To improve the team’s overall effectiveness and performance

One-on-one coaching and 360-degree assessments are useful in helping individuals gain valuable information about themselves. This approach, however, is limited and only tells half the story. The missing half is looking at the team as a whole.

Team coaching enables a team to function as more than the sum of its parts by clarifying the team’s purpose and improving the relationships within the team and its external environment. Every team is a living, dynamic system with its own personality, strengths, blind spots, spoken and unspoken rules. Without awareness of the team dynamics and ways to shift or influence those dynamics, individuals may struggle with alignment, decision-making, productivity, collaboration, and accountability. Our coaches use a five-step process to ensure a successful outcome:

  1. Match - We start with an initial conversation with the manager to understand the current team situation. The purpose is to define the scope of work and to match a team coach based on needs, availability, style, experience, and pace.

  2. Discovery - We use an interview-based process to speak with each team member individually to gather pertinent information about their role, contribution, challenges they face, and any perceptions about the current team dynamics. A typical interview takes 45 to 60 minutes.

  3. Design - We determine the appropriate assessments, tools, and methodologies to use for the coaching sessions based on the one-on-one interviews. The coach may conduct real-time observation of the team in action during a regular meeting for additional information.

  4. Coach - Sessions are focused on three objectives: 1) to surface needs and differences among team members; 2) to have productive conversations about what’s working and what’s not (i.e., addressing the “elephant in the room”); and 3) to build specific skills needed among the team members, such as giving feedback or influencing others. While we provide an agenda for each session, the coaching will happen in real-time and we remain flexible to adapt to meet the emerging needs of the team. Post-work is assigned to be completed in between the team coaching sessions to ensure that the insights, outcomes, new skills and behaviors are practiced and applied in the team’s day-to-day work.

  5. Evaluate - Surveys and regular check-ins to ensure objectives are met and that you are completely satisfied.
